What's new?
2013 Theni
As with anywhere else in India, Theni is transforming too. The wild that once demarcated towns and villages are disappearing, giving way to new housing. Days are gone where monkeys patrolled on roof tops. Now they are no where to be seen. The stay was pleasant as monsoon rain helped to cool the July hot weather. Our first visit was Suruli Theertham with rich forest backdrop. All three shaved our heads there. We then visited family and friends in Jeyamangalam, Theni, Madurai and Chennai. It felt good to break the loneliness with family and friends and carry these memories for another year. |
2013 New Year
Our journey continued to Washington DC space museum. Numerous space developments were elegantly portrayed by a good collection of items. Once, our interest overwhelmed us to a nice little argument over a aircraft model. As 2012 came to an end, more friends and family started to gather. As night fell, our parents continued a prolonged discussion over the year passed and some silly stuff, while we were busy playing. |
WH Memories
Many friends from Kinder have joined first grade in Wardlaw Hartridge. Our teacher Ms. Joanne Jacobson taught us science, math and english. I enjoyed learning math and science. We did various science experiments like barometer, life of penguin and grizzly bear etc. Another fun place is learning artwork like sewing and clay arts. I did boat project with clay for display at the year end. I liked play spy with my friend Jack.

Vacation with Gayathri and Thulasi
Gayathri akka and Thulasi had visited from Chicago during this summer vacation. We had two weeks of nice play time. Watching and holding Tulasi was a new experience. Every morning I spend time with him watching play. Akka likes books and arts - as she says, her name means Goddess of Knowledge. We read many books. Played Wii, cards, Uno, carrom. We shared and learned many things of each others likes and dislikes. The day she was leaving, we went canoeing in a river. We had a nice time catching weeds and picking algae using a small paddle till the long pale spider scared us off the boat. It was a fun time all along and the time was not enough. Hope we can have more play time together. |
Gathering
Meeting friends and family in our new home. With the weather warming up, friends from Boston, New Jersey and Baltimore gathered after a long time. Muthu had inspired Ravi to buy a roadside bike in this trip. Celebrated birthdays for Kausal and Sanju. Many kids running around happily brought back nostalgic memories of India. |
Skiing
A snow shower during Halloween made many wonder if this winter could be colder. But it had been unusually warm throughout with temperature at times reaching sixties. We visited Blue Mountain Ski resort. The trails there were made using snow blowers. The trails usually merge on to trees on the side. But this time the tree side was barren with grass and rocks. Till the sun set, we enjoyed the snow in warm weather. |
City Walk
Walked along brooklyn bridge in the evening sun for a nice city view. There were locks of all shapes and sizes all over the bridge. Counted 169 of them. Visited WTC construction site. Seating area with tall palm trees and bright lighting was nice. Played and took funny pictures with different postures. It was fun. Night view of Jersey city outside WTC was beautiful. Took subway for Time Square to see New Year preparations. |
Deepavali
Dwarkadish temple had nice spacing for Deepavali celebrations - a week long event. We got a bus from allotted parking lot, after wading through traffic. Few got to temple for worship. But we chose not to disturb god in that busy day. The cracker field was bustling with people. Sound and smell of crackers has brought new joy to kids. While volunteers steered the crowd to stay away from center, kids often manage to dash crackers into crowd by throwing and kicking. Some parents were pretending of keep their kids in control. After all it is Deepavali. The chaotic crowd managed to keep the fun and joy. |
